George A. Bermann

Director

George Bermann is a renowned International Arbitrator, and holds the titled Professorships at Columbia Law School as the Jean Monnet Professor of European Union Law and the Walter Gelhorn Professor of Law.  Professor Bermann is the Founder of the European Legal Studies Center, and the Founder and Director of the Center for International Commercial and Investment Arbitration.  In addition to his appointments with Columbia Law School, Professor Bermann is a faculty member of College d’Europe (Bruges, Belgium) and the Law and Globalization Program of the University of Paris I and the Institut des Sciences of Politiques.   Professor Bermann also serves as the Chief Reporter for the ALI Restatement of the US Law of International Commercial Arbitration and as the Director of the American Arbitration Association.  Professor Bermann holds memberships of the panel of ICDR arbitrators, the roster of CPR neutrals, and the Academic Advisory Board of the Institute of Transnational Arbitration.  Professor Bermann is the current President of the Académie Internationale de Droit Comparé, and is the former President of the American Society of Comparative Law; international commercial arbitrator; Court- and attorney-appointed foreign law expert on French, German, Swiss and EU Law, and transnational litigation and arbitration.  Full Profile
